A big part of the emigrants of Kurdish descent, who are living in Germany, Austria or Switzerland, are coming back to Kurdistan to participate in the reconstruction of their home country. Therefore their children did grow up in a German speaking environment and would like to pursue their school education under the similar conditions they had in Europe. The German School of Erbil would like to offer those possibilities.

The school opened on the 16^th of September 2010 and started with tuition in grades 1 to 5. Medium-term goals are to build up the school in the next years to be able to offer education up to the German final secondary school examinations in 2018 on Iraqi ground in Kurdistan.

In 2010, the GAUFF Foundation supported the reconstruction and extension of the German school by donations to spend for the urgently needed educational material.
