Reconstruction of partner school in Mozambique

In the night of 15th to 16th of March 2019, the cyclone Idai hit with wind gusts of up to 160 km / h on the Mozambican coastal town of Beira. The storm, with its accompanying tide and heavy rains, has devastated an estimated 90% of the port city of Beira, as well as large parts of the interior, Zimbabwe and Malawi. About 2.8 million people, half of them children, are affected by this disaster and threatened in their existence.

The Goethe Institute in Maputo (CCMA) is the official coordinator of the partner school initiative of the German Foreign Office (PASCH) for Mozambique. PASCH operates i.a. a school in Beira, which was heavily damaged by the storm. Large parts of the school building are destroyed, which now urgently need to be restored. In the rubble, survivors from the college and student body gathered after the storm, urgently needed food, clothing and fuel.

The GAUFF Foundation is supporting the PASCH Initiative with a donation of 5000,- EUR, so that emergency aid can be provided easily and lessons can be resumed as soon as possible in a restored building. In addition, the GAUFF Engineering employees in Mozambique are also suportive to the PASCH initiative with technical assistance in rebuilding the school and in constructing a new roof for the school.
